Jakob Sommer Photography
My name is Jakob Sommer and I live and work in Basel.
Photography is my minor subject, but no less passionate...
It all began in the wild 80s, when my parents gave me my first camera. Probably because my father didn't want me to use his Voigtländer too much and maybe break it. Photography quickly became my great hobby, my passion - with everything that goes with it. So also developing and enlarging in the darkroom. It was soon clear to me that I wanted to become a photographer when I grew up. But, how do you say it so appropriately, firstly things turned out differently and secondly, than planned. The photography moved a little into the background.
When. my wife was pregnant and even more beautiful than normal, the wish to capture it was more than enough reason for me to fulfil my heart's desire and to afford a professional digital camera. The passion for photography was reawakened and also for image editing, which is now sensibly done in Lightroom instead of the darkroom. In the digital age I use all the great possibilities and sometimes I edit a picture in Photoshop if it serves the result.
I love it when my pictures arrive and bring joy, when they tell stories and bring a smile to the viewer's face because they remind him of a moment, a feeling or simply because he finds them beautiful. Portrait photography is one of my favourite pastimes and so I am always happy when people ask me to take pictures. I am always happy to receive any messages, whether they are requests for commissions or collaboration on a TFP basis or even if someone wants to say or ask something about my portfolio? In this sense, maybe I'll see you soon - I 'd be happy!
